After graduating from the Pretoria Technicon (Now known as the Tshwane University of Technology) with a Higher Diploma in Theatre Technology in 1998, Dewet worked as an intern and later as an assistant designer in Johannesburg.

During the latter of 2002 he started trading as an independent production and visual designer and founded the close corporation Darkwing Projects CC which trades under the name JDMUnlimited and continued specialising in television, audiovisual and special broadcast event production design.

Over the past 18 years, Dewet Meyer has established himself, and his company, as an esteemed and highly acclaimed production and visual design firm in South Africa. He has designed the stages and visual elements for many national and internationally broadcasted television productions and special projects which will forever form part of the proud South African television, theatre and eventing history. These include Idols, Miss South Africa Pageants, Miss World broadcasts, CNN Multichoice African Journalist of the year award and FIFA preliminary, Confederation Cup and Final draw ceremonies to name a few.

In June 2017, Dewet invested heavily in the establishment of a Set Building Company JDMBuildco. The company operates independently from JDMUnlimited, meaning it doesn't exclusively build for JDMUnlimited, but also for the industry as a whole. It has completed many successful and great projects in the last few years and looking forward to growing which will again mean greater investment in the set construction community but also job creation.
